Hikoi on Heels at Club Ivy!

The New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s national drag extravaganza, Hikoi on Heels, hits Wellington this Saturday night, and it’s all happening at Club Ivy and The Garden Club!

Miss Ribena, from Auckland, will host the camp evening which aims to raise Maori support for HIV prevention and provide a place for takataapui to network and have fun. It’s also open to everyone else!

The venue has been switched from Club Ivy to The Garden Club downstairs, to accommodate all the campness that will take place.

The Hikoi on Heels starts from 9pm Saturday 21 August and the campness will run all through the night, with loads of performers from Wellington and around the country, including Felicity Frockaccino, Nikita van der Kamp, Gummy Sue, Amanduh La Whore, Ms. Malibu Thang, Stephii Onassis, Rhubarb Rouge, and more!

Not going to Devious?

Too tight to spend $45 on a ticket to this weekend’s massive Devious: FREEZE dance party? Don’t fret; Club Ivy is hosting the Penny Pinchers’ Party with free entry and drinks specials all night!

“Devious is going to be huge!” says Club Ivy’s Greig Wilson. “But not everyone can afford the ticket price, so we’re throwing a special party.”

Entry to the event at Club Ivy is absolutely free, and there will be drinks specials to warm you up. “Punters can enjoy two-for-one drinks from 10pm until midnight,” he says. The club is also serving Macs beer for the especially low price of $5 each.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a penny pincher!” Greig laughs. “Come and forget your sorrows at Club Ivy this Saturday!”

Tickets for Devious: FREEZE are still available at $45+bf online and from Real Groovys and S&M’s, or for $60 on the night if you’re lucky!

New Friday DJ!

Club Ivy’s long-time DJ, Aaron Halliwell from Camp FM and Aaron and Andy.com, has resigned from his spot on Friday evenings.

A brand new DJ will take over the Camp Attack! spot, 21-year-old DJ Juzi.

DJ Juzi started off DJing for university events and private parties, before hitting the stage at Club Ivy to cover for Aaron. Now he’s taken the gig, he promises a huge range of music the gays will definitely appreciate.

“Anything with a hot beat and catchy lyrics”, he says. “Namely urban, dance and pop!”

You can catch DJ Juzi at Club Ivy for Camp Attack!, every Friday night.

What a fabulous night last Saturday, when Nikita van der Kamp took the title of Miss Drag Wellington at Wellington’s Next Top Drag Queen at The Garden Club, downstairs from Club Ivy.

A capacity crowd, celebrity judges, and the who’s who of Wellington’s gay elite packed into the club to watch six stunning queens: Felicity Frockaccino, Nikita, Malibu, Cherry Shortcake, Gummy Sue, and PacPac Thundercunt battle it out for the title. Hosted by stunning Hutt Valley divas Shaaron and Shandy, there were also appearances from former Miss Drag Wellington Amanduh La Whore, Rhubarb Rouge, as well as Queenie Aotearoa and Buffy and Bimbo.

Camp Attack on Friday

Camp Attack will be taking over Club Ivy every Friday night, with Camp FM’s DJ Aaron spinning the gayest of tunes all night, including the latest hits from Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Kylie, Kat Deluna, etc.

While it’s hard to please everyone, we’ve figured that Camp Attack on Fridays and a house DJ on Saturday nights will give people a range of music over the two big nights of the week.

Our new resident DJ for Saturday nights is DJ Empire, he’s been playign for a few weeks, and he brings an excellent DJ CV, and is open to all sorts of music types and requests.

We love Lady Gaga, just not ten times every night!

Friday: Traffic Light Party!

UniQ’s annual Traffic Light Party is back at Club Ivy this Friday night!

With DJ Juzi will be spinning the tunes, as well as some stunning performances from Madeline McDonald, PacPac Thundercunt, and Miss Malibu Thang!

We’ve also got a great 2-for-1 drink special from 10pm-midnight.

Entry is $5 for students and Club Ivy cardholders, $10 for everyone else. On entry you will be given a ribbon of your choice: red, orange, or green. Red means you are taken/not available, orange means you are single/free but not easy, and green you are rearing to go and get it on. It’s always a huge hit!

Make sure you’re there, this Friday (the 28th) at Club Ivy, starting 10pm, finishing… when it does.

Wellington’s Next Top Drag Queen is back!

Help decide Wellington’s Next Top Drag Queen, at The Garden Club on Queen’s birthday weekend, Sunday 6 June.

The evening will be hosted by Wellington’s most trashy queens, Shaaron and Shandy, who will be helping us find the next Miss Drag Wellington.

Some camp and stunning girls have already entered, but we’re still looking for more! Rumoured entrants include Felicity Frockaccino (pictured), Nikita van der Kamp, and Gummy Sue. However we’re keeping mum on who will grace the stage!

There are some awesome prizes and sponsors, with seated guests in to win some fabulous gifts. Remember, you have to be in first to get a seat, and there are only 100! After that there is standing room too.

Each audience member is allowed to cast one vote, to help decide Wellington’s Next Top Drag Queen.

Doors open at 8pm, with the show starting at 9pm on the dot. Following the competition, you can party the night away with the girls!
